Srila Gurudeva: Once, Indra made some offense to the lotus feet of his Gurudeva Brhaspati. For this fault, he became a hog and came to this world. He was wandering and roaming here and there. He collected so many she-hogs and so many thousands of sons and daughters. He was feeling so happy although he was eating the stool of humans and was always lying down in the drains, eating only these things.
Brahma was coming to this world and he saw that Indra was with so many she-hogs and so many children. He saw, “He is so happy. He is absorbed in all these things and thinking that, ‘I am so happy that I have so many wives, children, and I am free from all bindings.’” But Brahma saw this because he is a realized soul. He saw this and said to Indra, “O Indra, what are you doing? Why are you engaged in all this nonsense?”
Indra as a hog was looking here and there, “Who is calling me Indra? I am a hog. I am so happy.”
Brahma told him, “You are not a hog. Really you are Indra and you live always in heaven with your wife and your children. There you only taste amrta, nectar. You have so many beautiful gardens and so many things. You were so powerful, but you have become this dirty hog. I want that you should return to your home.”
Indra told him, “I am happy here. I don’t know who Indra is. I am happy with my children and wife and I am okay. I don’t want to go anywhere.”
“Oh, I will make some arrangement.” He took water from his kamandalu, his water-pot, and sprinkled it with a mantra. First he took away all his sons and daughters one by one. He threw out all his sons and all were dead. “Will you go to heaven now?”
He replied, “No. So many children will be born in a month, so many. I don’t want to go anywhere. So many wives are here. Some are pregnant and some will be pregnant and thus again we will have so many children.” Then Brahma took away his wives one by one and began to kill them. All of them were killed and then he told him, “Now will you go to heaven?”
“Never. I will collect more wives.” Then he sprinkled him with some water and said a mantra and Indra realized, “Oh, I am Indra? I am in this pig form and eating so many bad things. I want to go back to heaven.” Then he began to pray to Brahma, “O Brahma you are my father, so please be merciful to me and take me to heaven.” Brahma again took some water and sprinkled it on him with mantra. Indra left that body and at once quickly went to Svarga.
