Srila Gurudeva: Those who have taken birth, they must die one day, so we should not be worried for this. You should all know strongly that you will die one day. You were a little boy without any cloth, naked, and now you are young. Some have also crossed the age of fifty and some entering into the age of sixty. Some are going to touch eighty and after this, when they will reach a hundred years old, they will collapse and they will die. They will not be able to walk anymore. So many people will take him to perform his funeral ceremony. They will either put him in a grave or he will be burnt in fire. Thus this body will be finished.
We should try to understand this truth. This is called truth. Otherwise, in this world, there is no truth. God is truth, but we are not seeing and realizing this. Some are realizing this. This death is truth. Anyone cannot deny this truth. So you must think, “Who am I and who is the controlling power?” You should be united with Him, this controlling power. This is called yoga. One plus another is yoga. Being covered by ignorance, anyone can deny God. They can deny the soul and the Supersoul, but they cannot deny death. They can never deny death. Even an ignorant person will have to admit death and also birth. They will also have to admit one thing: that this life is miserable.
We see in this world that there are so many problems. I think you know that in just two or three days, a war can begin and bombs can be dropped. So many people will be killed although they don’t want to be killed. So in this world, suffering and sorrows will surely come. Anyone cannot deny this. You will have to be old. If you want to be happy and you want to be calm and have peace of mind and heart and if you don’t want to die, then you should chant and remember this Supreme Personality of Godhead. He will surely save you because He has promised this in the Bhagavad-Gita:
ksipram bhavati dharmatma
sasvac-chantim nigacchati
kaunteya pratijanihi
na me bhaktah pranasyati
-Srimad Bhagavad-Gita 9.31
[He quickly becomes purified and attains relief from the bondage of both sins and pious activities. O son of Kunti! Declare it boldly that My devotee will never fail to attain perfection.]
“Those who are praying to Me, chanting My name, they cannot and will not die. I will save them from death and birth, suffering and sorrow.”
[Spoken by Srila Gurudeva on December 19th, 1998, Bali, published as part of the Bhakta Bandhav Anthology, Volume 24]
