In Navadvīpa-dhāma, Śrī Ramānujācārya, Śrī Viṣṇusvāmī, Nimbāditya, and the Vaiṣṇava ācāryas—by worshiping Caitanya Mahāprabhu and receiving His mercy—they completed whatever shortness was in their philosophies. But Śaṅkarācārya was instructed, “You cannot preach here. This is not the place of māyāvāda. Do not speak one word against bhakti in Navadvīpa or Vṛndāvana. Offer obeisance to this land and pray for Mahāprabhu’s mercy, then go and preach elsewhere. Here, there may never be the preaching of māyāvāda.”
Therefore Śaṅkarācārya offered praṇāma to this Bhūmi and left. His Prabhu is Kṛṣṇa, but he preached māyāvāda because of a special circumstance and by the order of the Lord. He preached to karmīs, jñānīs, bhogīs—those who want bhoga, mokṣa, and so forth as a result for their worship of Kṛṣṇa and Mahāprabhu. He made them go distant from Kṛṣṇa and Mahāprabhu so that they would not disturb the Lord.
