Your Life Will be Successful

[Spoken by Srila Gurudeva on January 21th, 1998, Australia, published as part of the Bhakta Bandhav Anthology, Volume 23]

Srila Gurudeva: Ye yatha mam prapadyante. “Those who are serving Me, I will give them love and affection accordingly.” He cannot give anything more than that. He has some scale and He will measure how qualified you are and give accordingly. “Do you have a pot? If you do not have a pot, then return. You should return.” But if you have a pot, some capacity for this prema, He will only give to that capacity. He has a scale, He cannot give more or less. But Caitanya Mahaprabhu, there is no need of a pot or anything. “Oh, I will give you a pot. You should come only.” And to whom He saw, by His eyes, He gave a pot and so much mercy. Even to Jagai and Madhai. So if you are going to any pure devotee of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, you can easily know the aim and object of life. So we should, we must cry for Caitanya Mahaprabhu. “O Gauranga, Gauranga bolite habe, pulaka sarira.” We should pray to Gauranga Mahaprabhu. When will a pulaka come? When will our hairs be standing on end and our heart will be melting? Sometimes when you are chanting, you can realize this. If you are so lucky and fortunate and you are totally chanting ‘Hare Krsna’ from the interior of your heart, you may sometimes realize this.

Some tears will come and you can feel how this is a very high thing. Your life will be successful if only one time you have realized this thing. So he is praying, “When will such a day come, when will I be so fortunate, that when I will utter ‘Gauranga,’ tears will come and I will be rolling down on the earth and my heart will be melting?” Why is he praying for this? Oh, without this, krsna-prema cannot come. We cannot relish krsna-prema. But at the same time he is telling that if he will chant ‘Gauranga,’ then, ‘Hari Hari’ bolite nayane babe nira. Then we will chant Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna. Here, Hari means what? Coming from Hare, Hari means Krsna and Hara means Srimati Radhika. Hare Krsna, Radha Krsna. Hare Rama is like Radha-ramana Rama with Radhika. It is a very good name. There is not so much rasa in only chanting Krsna’s name or Radha’s name as there is in chanting ‘Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Hare Rama.’ So Caitanya Mahaprabhu was always doing like this, ‘Hare Krsna Hare Krsna.’ So Narottama Thakura is praying that, “When will such a day come that we will chant ‘Hari Hari’ and tears will come?” Tears will not come if you have so many worldly desires. If you are engaged in only maintaining your life, your children's life, and maintaining all your worldly things, and if you are so much attached to worldly things, then Krsna’s name will not come, tears will not come.
